The Houston Rockets may assign second-year forward/center Donatas Motiejunas
to the Vipers, according to a Vipers team source.

The Houston Chronicle reported Monday afternoon that it was possible
Motiejunas could be sent down, but if so it would only be for a couple of
games at most.

The 7-foot, 215-pound Motiejunas has played 17 games this season with the
Rockets, averaging 2.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per game. He
has not developed as well as Houston has hoped, and is currently the third
big man in the rotation behind Dwight Howard and Greg Smith. Once Omer Asik
eventually returns from injury, that would push Motiejunas further down the
Rockets’ depth chart.

Motiejunas played seven games with the Vipers on assignment last season,
averaging 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 34.4 minutes per game,
shooting 51.8 percent. A versatile offensive talent with a nice shooting
touch, Motiejunas has so far struggled to apply those skills to the NBA.
In 61 career games so far with Houston, he is averaging 4.9 points and 1.9
rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game, shooting 43.7 percent from the field.
Motiejunas joins rookie forward Robert Covington on the Vipers as assignees
from the Rockets.
