蘋果執行長Tim Cook 在2014 Q1的說明會上，
首度公開承認"iPod的銷售數量下降了52%"，
並將原因歸給智慧型手機的蓬勃發展，取代了音樂撥放器的功能。
這一個發表被外界解讀為：
蘋果很有可能會停止iPod的銷售，或者不會再推出新的機種。
