After the Los Angeles Clippers traded for Lance Stephenson, Doc Rivers
quickly stated their new acquisition would not be their starting small
forward. Rivers sees Stephenson as more of a "utility player" off the bench,
which means the Clippers do not have a starting small forward. This also
means that the Clippers are not done making moves.

According to ESPN's Arash Markazi, one of those "more things" Rivers is
referring to, is exploring the option of signing Paul Pierce.

  One of the options the Clippers are exploring, according to sources, is Paul
  Pierce, who could sign a mini-midlevel exception of $3.37 million for up to
  three years if he declines his $5.5 million player option with Washington.
  Players don't normally turn down money but it's essentially a $1 million
  difference this season for Pierce, 37, to return home and be reunited with
  Rivers, who was his coach in Boston for nine seasons, including the 2007-08
  championship.

Pierce had a successful year with the Wizards, emerging in the playoffs as

However, Pierce is from Los Angeles and his relationship with Rivers should
not be discounted.



While it is entirely possible that Pierce could join the Clippers, Marakazi
notes that they are also looking at various trade options to add depth at the
small forward position.

The Clippers are also exploring trade options for Jamal Crawford, according

This seems like the more possible option for the Clippers. It is hard to see
Pierce leaving Washington, especially since by all accounts his family feels
settled there. Also, Chandler will be a better long term fit. Pierce may only
play one more season while Chandler is 28 years old and is still a dynamic
player both defensively and offensively.



One thing is for certain, Rivers is going to be actively adding pieces to the
Clippers this summer. Now that Donald Sterling isn't there to hold him back
from making moves, Rivers has more flexibility and is going to be taking
advantage of it.
